”There is a conversation that happens beneath words — between instinct and reason, between what we show and what we guard. The Whisperer of Shadows is my attempt to give that conversation a form. The woman and the cat have always shared a particular kind of silence. In many traditions, the cat is the keeper of what remains unseen: intuition, mystery, the threshold between worlds. I was drawn to this pairing not as symbol, but as felt experience — the way an animal can mirror something in us we have not yet named.I work in thread on organza — a material that holds light differently depending on the angle, the hour, the mood of the room. The cubist geometry in this piece is not distance; it is the opposite. It is my way of holding multiple truths at once: strength and vulnerability, presence and disappearance, the rational and the instinctive, existing not in conflict but in layered coexistence. The red in this work carries the full weight of that word — resilience, depth, the pulse of something still alive. I grew up in the Carpathians, where embroidery is not craft but language. Every stitch I make carries that inheritance forward, into a new century, a new world — and in this particular moment, through a war that has made the act of making feel both more fragile and more necessary than ever. The Whisperer of Shadows was made in 2025. It is, like all my work, an act of listening.“

About the Artist
Olesia Sakhro is a Ukrainian embroidery artist and inventor born in Kolomyia, in the Carpathian region of Ukraine. Working with silk, organza, and cotton threads, she has developed a distinctive visual language that bridges Ukrainian textile heritage with futurist-cubist abstraction — transforming each stitch into an act of both memory and reinvention. Her work has been exhibited internationally, with solo and group shows in Kyiv, Lviv, London, Paris, Montreal, Dubai, Berlin, Cologne, Switzerland, Panama, and Miami. Works from her collection are held in the private collections of Karl von Habsburg and Kenzo Takada. In 2020, Sakhro founded Sakhro Bags — a haute couture embroidered bag brand presented at Milan Fashion Week in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2025 Emerging Talents, with a showroom in Milan. She holds a patent for a double-sided embroidery technique, a method she developed through years of material research and artistic experimentation. For Sakhro, embroidery is not decoration — it is a meditative practice, a way of gathering fragments of broken life with thread.
